Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Maye is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: B-. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Bears spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Rice has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In the 1st overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick5
Rnd1
Joe Alt
They took Joe Alt at par in Round 1, Pick 5, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick69
Rnd3
Kamren Kinchens
They paid sticker price for Kamren Kinchens in No. 69, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick105
Rnd4
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at slot 105 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick128
Rnd4
Cade Stover
They paid a round early for Cade Stover in the 128th pick, more than the board wanted. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
