Draft Grade — Bears

FutureB
The Bears found their guy under center in Maye: D-. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bears reached some 47 spots for Justin Rogers, and value like that does not grow back. Put together, it is a D-.
So much rides on Drake Maye that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. A whole weekend of picks and linebacker is somehow still a want.
Landing Schrader that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and linebacker is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In pick 8 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In pick No. 9 they get a No. 1 receiver. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ja'Tavion Sanders well ahead of where he belonged. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick43
Rnd2
Troy Fautanu
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Troy Fautanu at the 43rd overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick74
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
A straight-up fair deal on Cooper Beebe at Round 3, Pick 10, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick75
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
A conviction pick on Sedrick Van Pran at slot 75 that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick103
Rnd4
Marshawn Kneeland
Marshawn Kneeland at pick No. 103 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick110
Rnd4
Justin Rogers
They reached a country mile for Justin Rogers at No. 110, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick127
Rnd4
Johnny Dixon
Good price on Johnny Dixon in the Round 4 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick146
Rnd5
Dallin Holker
A reasonable price with a little left over, Dallin Holker in the 146th pick. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick186
Rnd6
Cody Schrader
Cody Schrader in pick 186 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
