FutureA
The Bears drew a line under the quarterback search with Williams: D. Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They are betting Adams proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick22
Rnd1
Troy Franklin
No drama and no debate, Troy Franklin went about where he belonged in the 22nd overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick50
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
They took Jackson Powers-Johnson at par in Round 2, Pick 18, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick54
Rnd2
Kalen King
A quiet steal in pick 54: Kalen King for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick75
Rnd3
Javon Bullard
They read the board right and Javon Bullard was the payoff at slot 75. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick90
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
A straight-up fair deal on Zak Zinter at pick No. 90, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick110
Rnd4
Isaiah Adams
The board had cheaper options than Isaiah Adams at the 110th pick, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick122
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at No. 122 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick126
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at the 126th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick137
Rnd5
Jaheim Bell
Jaheim Bell in pick No. 137 is fair value, right on his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick146
Rnd5
Dallin Holker
No edge and no loss on Dallin Holker in pick 146; it is a wash and a sensible one. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick178
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaylan Ford. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
