FutureA+
The Bears found their guy under center in Maye: C. Start where it matters. The Bears took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The cost of the Powers-Johnson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Jessie Bates III gives the group a proven body among the projects.
Hit on Drake Maye and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In slot 9 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick43
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
The board had cheaper options than Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 43rd pick, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick44
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
They did well to land T.J. Tampa in No. 44, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick74
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson in pick 74 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick75
Rnd3
Blake Corum
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Blake Corum. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick77
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at Round 3, Pick 13 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick110
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
A tidy little value on Matt Goncalves in pick No. 110, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick122
Rnd4
Justin Eboigbe
No edge and no loss on Justin Eboigbe in Round 4, Pick 22; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick146
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ben Sinnott in the Round 5 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
