Steel Sentinel DRAFTING FOR THESteelers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall

TradesB-
FutureB-
The Steelers landed square in the muddy middle: C+. Priorities are a choice, and the Steelers made a strange one, taking Sedrick Van Pran at offensive lineman in the 54th overall pick with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots crying out for the pick instead. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They will need Sanders to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
On value alone, Hicks makes the weekend a net positive.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
A straight-up fair deal on Taliese Fuaga at slot 22, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick54
Rnd2
Sedrick Van Pran
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Sedrick Van Pran at offensive lineman with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots open.
Pick86
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in slot 86 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
Pick122
Rnd4
Shilo Sanders
They liked Shilo Sanders enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 4, Pick 22. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick159
Rnd5
Raheim Sanders
A real head-scratcher, Raheim Sanders in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick200
Rnd6
Jaden Hicks
Nice patience on Jaden Hicks, who had no business lasting to pick No. 200. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick243
Rnd7
Xavier Truss
The board had cheaper options than Xavier Truss at the 243rd pick, and it noticed. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
