Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D
ValueB NeedB- TradesF FutureA
The Bears drew a line under the quarterback search with Maye: D.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Bears spent pick No. 103 on Drake Nugent, a name most had 41 spots down the list. It grades a D, and the process earned it.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The whole projection now runs through Drake Maye; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

The Smith pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
In pick 3 they get a home-run threat at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In pick No. 9 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick34 Rnd2 Graham Barton
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 2 with a little surplus value in Graham Barton. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick35 Rnd2 Tyler Nubin
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tyler Nubin in slot 35. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick75 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
They took Cooper Beebe at par in the 75th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick90 Rnd3 Maason Smith
A curious use of No. 90. Interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots needed the pick; a DT-EDGE in Maason Smith did not.
Pick103 Rnd4 Drake Nugent
They left a pile of value on the table to take Drake Nugent this early at the Round 4 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick110 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at pick No. 110 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick122 Rnd4 Jaheim Bell
Jaheim Bell at the 122nd overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick146 Rnd5 Keith Randolph Jr.
No edge and no loss on Keith Randolph Jr. in pick 146; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
