Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Browns.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Tommy Mellott at the Round 7 slot is 130 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.

The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
Abdul Carter at pick 2 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick33 Rnd2 Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at the 33rd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jalen Milroe
A real head-scratcher, Jalen Milroe in pick No. 67 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick94 Rnd3 Devin Neal
No edge and no loss on Devin Neal in Round 3, Pick 30; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick104 Rnd4 Smael Mondon Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Smael Mondon Jr. at slot 104 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick179 Rnd6 Isaac TeSlaa
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Isaac TeSlaa. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick192 Rnd6 Jay Toia
They liked Jay Toia enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 192. The roster fit checks out.
Pick200 Rnd6 Maxen Hook
Maxen Hook in slot 200 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick216 Rnd6 Joshua Simon
Joshua Simon at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick255 Rnd7 Tommy Mellott
Tommy Mellott in Round 7, Pick 39 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
