Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureD+
The Saints fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B.

Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Saints came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. The bottom line is a respectable B.

The Oladapo pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. Suamataia has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick 32 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick45 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
They liked Kingsley Suamataia enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 2 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick66 Rnd3 Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil at the 66th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick101 Rnd4 Brenden Rice
They did well to land Brenden Rice in the 101st pick, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick150 Rnd5 Xavier Thomas
Xavier Thomas in No. 150 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick168 Rnd5 Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden at slot 168 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick170 Rnd5 Kitan Oladapo
Kitan Oladapo at Round 5, Pick 34 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick175 Rnd5 Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis at pick No. 175 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. The roster fit checks out.
Pick190 Rnd6 Steele Chambers
Steele Chambers at the 190th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick199 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
Cornelius Johnson slid further than he should have, and pick No. 199 is lovely value for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick219 Rnd6 Jaylan Ford
The board had Jaylan Ford higher than Round 6, Pick 44, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick239 Rnd7 Michael Barrett
Nothing to complain about; Michael Barrett went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
