pt1007 DRAFTING FOR THEGiants

Best value of the weekend goes to the Giants for Neal Jr.: B. The Giants spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Marcus Neal Jr., the No. 119 name on the board, in Round 5, Pick 14. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Giants indulged a want in Lacy while a need in edge rusher, quarterback and other spots stayed open.
They are betting McCuin proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Will Echoles
In the 26th pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick59
Rnd2
Kewan Lacy
A want over a need in slot 59: Kewan Lacy adds a running back while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick111
Rnd4
Samson Okunlola
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Samson Okunlola in the Round 4 slot, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick129
Rnd4
Devin McCuin
Devin McCuin in Round 4, Pick 27 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick151
Rnd5
Marcus Neal Jr.
The board fumbled Marcus Neal Jr. all the way to pick No. 151, and they scooped it up. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick165
Rnd5
Justin Evans
Justin Evans in pick 165 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick174
Rnd5
Drayk Bowen
Drayk Bowen at No. 174 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
Pick206
Rnd6
John Nestor
John Nestor at the 206th overall pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick217
Rnd6
Jake Guarnera
Jake Guarnera at slot 217 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick249
Rnd7
Bryce Thornton
A safety of that caliber at pick No. 249 is the definition of value, full stop. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
