Jonathan N DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots

Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for Mukuba: B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Andrew Mukuba got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at Round 4, Pick 4. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Hawes has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In the 4th pick they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick38
Rnd2
Luther Burden III
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Luther Burden III at slot 38 is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick69
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
The board had cheaper options than Ozzy Trapilo at the 69th overall pick, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick77
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at Round 3, Pick 13 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick106
Rnd4
Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at pick 106 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick144
Rnd5
Hollin Pierce
Nothing to complain about; Hollin Pierce went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick217
Rnd7
Tahj Brooks
Tahj Brooks in pick No. 217 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Pick220
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson in No. 220 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick238
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
A premium they did not need to pay, Jackson Hawes a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
