Good, not great, for the Lions: B. Nobody else had Carter Smith anywhere near slot 50. The Lions did, by 37 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The back end got a real overhaul.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick50
Rnd2
Carter Smith
Value said wait; Carter Smith in the 50th pick says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
