Draft Grade — Dolphins

The Dolphins cashed the board's mistake on Golday: B-.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jake Golday got past him. The Dolphins do not have to explain a thing at Round 4, Pick 11. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

Reaching for Nussmeier left real value on the table behind him. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
In No. 11 they get a cornerstone up front, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Garrett Nussmeier
They left a pile of value on the table to take Garrett Nussmeier this early at the 43rd overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick75 Rnd3 A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy at pick No. 75 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick87 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
The board fumbled Jake Slaughter all the way to the 87th pick, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Pick90 Rnd3 Keionte Scott
They robbed the room for Keionte Scott here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick111 Rnd4 Jake Golday
Jake Golday in Round 4, Pick 11 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick149 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
A reasonable price with a little left over, DeMonte Capehart in the Round 5 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick227 Rnd7 Zavion Thomas
A straight-up fair deal on Zavion Thomas at pick 227, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
