Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Cowboys a B.

The tape said wait; the Cowboys did not. Kyle Williams went at the Round 5 slot, a good 23 picks before the board was ready.

However the rest shakes out, Collins at that price is a win they earned. That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In the 12th overall pick they get a workhorse for the backfield, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick44 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
A clean, defensible pick in slot 44 with a little surplus value in Jihaad Campbell. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick76 Rnd3 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in the 76th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick149 Rnd5 Kyle Williams
They reached into another round for Kyle Williams, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick171 Rnd5 Quincy Riley
A reach on Quincy Riley in Round 5, Pick 33; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick174 Rnd5 Jaylen Reed
A premium they did not need to pay, Jaylen Reed a notch or two before his time. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick204 Rnd6 Luke Lachey
No drama and no debate, Luke Lachey went about where he belonged in the Round 6 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick211 Rnd6 Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards at slot 211 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick239 Rnd7 Ty Hamilton
Ty Hamilton in the 239th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick247 Rnd7 Ja'Corey Brooks
They read the board right and Ja'Corey Brooks was the payoff at pick 247. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
