Farisahmed19 DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The 49ers robbed the room for Sanders. Final grade: B. When a board-topper like Raheim Sanders slides to No. 230, you do not overthink it, and the 49ers did not. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
If Griffith pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick43
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant in the 43rd pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick75
Rnd3
Xavier Watts
They barely believed it either: Xavier Watts still on the board at pick 75. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick99
Rnd3
Jake Majors
Nothing to complain about; Jake Majors went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick111
Rnd4
Gunnar Helm
Taking Gunnar Helm in slot 111 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick137
Rnd4
Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman in the 137th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick185
Rnd6
Willie Lampkin
They will replay Willie Lampkin at No. 185 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick226
Rnd7
Quincy Riley
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 7 slot with a little surplus value in Quincy Riley. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick230
Rnd7
Raheim Sanders
Circle this one: Raheim Sanders at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick249
Rnd7
Thor Griffith
Thor Griffith in the 249th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick255
Rnd7
Micah Morris
They paid up for Micah Morris at the 255th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
