The Jets kept it disciplined and banked a B. Nobody else had Carson Steele anywhere near pick 187. The Jets did, by 63 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
The Hartman pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In No. 18 they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
Pick49
Rnd2
Devontez Walker
They took Devontez Walker at par in the 49th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick72
Rnd3
Malachi Corley
No edge and no loss on Malachi Corley in the 72nd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick80
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick111
Rnd4
Beau Brade
Beau Brade at slot 111 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick147
Rnd5
LaDarius Henderson
They paid up for LaDarius Henderson at pick 147 when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick187
Rnd6
Carson Steele
They reached into another round for Carson Steele, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick229
Rnd7
Sam Hartman
They will replay Sam Hartman at the 229th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick255
Rnd7
Evan Anderson
Value said wait; Evan Anderson in pick 255 says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick256
Rnd7
Mason Fairchild
Mason Fairchild at pick No. 256 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
