Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall A
ValueA NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureA
The Patriots cashed the board's mistake on Henderson: A.

When a board-topper like TreVeyon Henderson slides to the Round 5 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not. Very little went wrong, and the A is earned.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The Christian Darrisaw deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Luther Burden III
Nice patience on Luther Burden III, who had no business lasting to pick 24. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick38 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 2 slot is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker at pick No. 69 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick77 Rnd3 Omarion Hampton
The board fumbled Omarion Hampton all the way to the 77th pick, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick97 Rnd3 Gunnar Helm
Taking Gunnar Helm in Round 3, Pick 33 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick105 Rnd4 Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba in No. 105 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick145 Rnd5 TreVeyon Henderson
They will replay TreVeyon Henderson at slot 145 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick219 Rnd7 Cody Simon
You do not let a linebacker like Cody Simon reach the 219th overall pick and blink. They did not. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick222 Rnd7 Willie Lampkin
Circle this one: Willie Lampkin at the 222nd overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick240 Rnd7 Upton Stout
Upton Stout in Round 7, Pick 22 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
