Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall
B

FutureB-
The Vikings did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. The Vikings let the board come to them and it handed over Sheridan Jones in No. 230, comfortably the best value of their weekend. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Every board in the league had Bishop lower, and that gap is the story.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In pick 15 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick42
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick46
Rnd2
Denzel Burke
Denzel Burke in No. 46 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick108
Rnd4
Junior Colson
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Junior Colson. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick130
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop in the 130th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick148
Rnd5
McCallan Castles
They paid sticker price for McCallan Castles in slot 148, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick160
Rnd5
Layden Robinson
A straight-up fair deal on Layden Robinson at pick 160, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick165
Rnd5
Frank Gore Jr.
They took Frank Gore Jr. at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick179
Rnd6
Kaden Prather
Nothing to complain about; Kaden Prather went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick230
Rnd7
Sheridan Jones
The board had Sheridan Jones higher than No. 230, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick235
Rnd7
Carson Steele
Carson Steele at the 235th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
