TiredK0ala DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The 49ers won the night they stopped Wilson from sliding. Grade: B-. You build a draft on nights like this. Payton Wilson had no business being available in pick 94, and the 49ers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chop Robinson. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick63
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in No. 63 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick94
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
They will replay Payton Wilson at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick98
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at the 98th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick132
Rnd4
Javon Foster
A clean, defensible pick in Round 4, Pick 32 with a little surplus value in Javon Foster. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick176
Rnd6
Frank Gore Jr.
They paid sticker price for Frank Gore Jr. in the 176th overall pick, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick209
Rnd6
Tarheeb Still
Tarheeb Still slid further than he should have, and pick No. 209 is lovely value for the cornerback. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick214
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
They took Gabe Hall at par in slot 214, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick215
Rnd6
De'Corian Clark
A tidy little value on De'Corian Clark in pick No. 215, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick249
Rnd7
Zakhari Franklin
Zakhari Franklin in No. 249 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
