Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Bills. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bills did exactly that with Javon Baker in the Round 4 slot. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick67
Rnd3
Junior Colson
The board had cheaper options than Junior Colson at slot 67, and it noticed. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick99
Rnd3
Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith in the 99th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick100
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
A tidy little value on Zak Zinter in No. 100, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick128
Rnd4
Javon Baker
Javon Baker at the 128th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick165
Rnd5
Jaylin Simpson
Value with a capital V on Jaylin Simpson in pick 165, a genuine coup. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
