FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Steelers this weekend: B. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Steelers came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.
Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The Smith value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In slot 31 they get an anchor for the offensive line. Need was not the driver here.
Pick50
Rnd2
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
No drama and no debate, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 18. The roster fit checks out.
Pick63
Rnd2
Denzel Burke
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Denzel Burke at the 63rd overall pick is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick82
Rnd3
Rod Moore
Nothing to complain about; Rod Moore went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick94
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
A surprising call. With quarterback, edge rusher and other spots still to address, they spent No. 94 on Sedrick Van Pran, an offensive lineman they were not short of.
Pick118
Rnd4
Nazir Stackhouse
Nazir Stackhouse at pick 118 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick123
Rnd4
Junior Colson
They took Junior Colson at par in the 123rd pick, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick196
Rnd6
Ainias Smith
Ainias Smith at pick No. 196 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick239
Rnd7
Miyan Williams
The board had cheaper options than Miyan Williams at pick 239, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
