The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Ersery: B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Aireontae Ersery, the No. 45 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 69. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Kiser has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Travis Hunter
In the 4th pick they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick38
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jalon Walker in slot 38. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick69
Rnd3
Aireontae Ersery
Aireontae Ersery in pick No. 69 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick77
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
Circle this one: TreVeyon Henderson at the 77th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick106
Rnd4
Xavier Restrepo
Xavier Restrepo in Round 4, Pick 4 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick144
Rnd5
Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce at No. 144 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
Pick171
Rnd5
Jack Kiser
The board had cheaper options than Jack Kiser at the Round 5 slot, and it noticed. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick220
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey at pick 220 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick238
Rnd7
Akili Arnold
Good price on Akili Arnold in pick No. 238, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
