Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Panthers spent Round 6, Pick 5 on Jared Wiley, a name most had 25 spots down the list.

The Solomon pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at cornerback, linebacker and other spots. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

They banked enough surplus on Franklin to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
