Ryan Poles Burner DRAFTING FOR THEBears

Draft Grade — Bears

FutureB
The Bears fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+. The Bears did not so much draft Brandon Coleman as overpay for him, 50 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
The Haynes steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
In slot 6 they get a matchup weapon at tight end. Need was not the driver here.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In pick 9 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick27
Rnd1
Tyler Nubin
In the 27th pick they get a downhill hitter at safety at fair value. More want than need.
Pick35
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
No edge and no loss on Chop Robinson in pick No. 35; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick47
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier at No. 47 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick79
Rnd3
Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley in pick 79 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick90
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
Value with a capital V on Christian Haynes in Round 3, Pick 27, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick96
Rnd3
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at pick No. 96 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick114
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in No. 114 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick122
Rnd4
Brandon Coleman
A real head-scratcher, Brandon Coleman in the 122nd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
