Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesC FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Patriots a B-.

The Patriots' one glaring miss is quarterback, a need they left exactly as they found it. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

Reaching for Hamilton left real value on the table behind him. Getting Walker where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick38 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Nice patience on Jalon Walker, who had no business lasting to pick No. 38. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins at Round 3, Pick 5 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick81 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
No edge and no loss on Ozzy Trapilo in slot 81; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick106 Rnd4 Dylan Fairchild
A straight-up fair deal on Dylan Fairchild at the 106th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick119 Rnd4 Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson in the 119th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
Pick144 Rnd5 Brashard Smith
A quiet steal in pick 144: Brashard Smith for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick183 Rnd6 Kyle Williams
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kyle Williams at No. 183 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick212 Rnd6 Jason Marshall Jr.
They let Jason Marshall Jr. come to them and pounced at the 212th overall pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick217 Rnd7 Jordan Hancock
They took Jordan Hancock at par in Round 7, Pick 1, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick238 Rnd7 Ty Hamilton
A reach for Ty Hamilton in the Round 7 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
