Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
Nobody dealt better than the Patriots this weekend: A-.

There is reaching, and then there is DJ Uiagalelei at Round 7, Pick 4. The Patriots jumped the board by 88 and dared it to prove them wrong.

On value alone, Watts makes the weekend a net positive. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Dontayvion Wicks deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

On the needs board they went 8 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

Bottom line, with Josh Simmons leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in pick No. 38 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick45 Rnd2 Walter Nolen
Somehow Walter Nolen was still sitting there in the 45th overall pick, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick54 Rnd2 Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson at slot 54 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick69 Rnd3 Xavier Watts
You do not let a safety like Xavier Watts reach the Round 3 slot and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick77 Rnd3 Savion Williams
Savion Williams in pick 77 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick87 Rnd3 Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman in Round 3, Pick 23 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick106 Rnd4 Elijah Roberts
Elijah Roberts in pick 106 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick144 Rnd5 Clay Webb
This one needs a full-page explanation: Clay Webb in the 144th overall pick, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick217 Rnd7 Jay Higgins
They read the board right and Jay Higgins was the payoff at the Round 7 slot. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick220 Rnd7 DJ Uiagalelei
They reached into another round for DJ Uiagalelei, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick232 Rnd7 Cooper Mays
Cooper Mays in the 232nd pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick238 Rnd7 Gino Garcia
Gino Garcia at slot 238 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
