Conviction outran the board for the Buccaneers, and it cost them: F. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Buccaneers took Kamran James a full 108 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
The Lawson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Tight end was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with interior defensive lineman still staring back at them.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
In the 15th overall pick they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick49
Rnd2
Anthony Lucas
This one needs a full-page explanation: Anthony Lucas in Round 2, Pick 17, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick77
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
A tidy bit of business in slot 77, where Deontae Lawson graded well above the range. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick116
Rnd4
Jack Endries
Nothing to complain about; Jack Endries went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick153
Rnd5
Trey Moore
Trey Moore in pick 153 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick156
Rnd5
Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton at pick No. 156 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick195
Rnd6
Antonio Kite
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Antonio Kite. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick229
Rnd7
Kamran James
A real head-scratcher, Kamran James in pick No. 229 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
