FutureA
The Vikings let Clark fall into their laps, and walked away with a A-. The real work happened on the phones. The Vikings fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. However the rest shakes out, Clark at that price is a win they earned.
The cost of the Hill reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Vikings paired the rookies with proven help, James Cook leading the way.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Jake Slaughter and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Jake Slaughter
In the 32nd pick they get a long-term starter on the line at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick49
Rnd2
Eli Stowers
A reach on Eli Stowers in the 49th overall pick; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick81
Rnd3
Michael Taaffe
No edge and no loss on Michael Taaffe in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick97
Rnd3
Caleb Tiernan
Caleb Tiernan at No. 97 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jyaire Hill
Jyaire Hill at Round 4, Pick 15 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick132
Rnd4
Isaiah Nwokobia
Nice patience on Isaiah Nwokobia, who had no business lasting to pick No. 132. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick156
Rnd5
Bud Clark
Somehow Bud Clark was still sitting there in the 156th overall pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick170
Rnd5
Cayden Lee
A tidy little value on Cayden Lee in No. 170, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick173
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
They took Davison Igbinosun at par in Round 5, Pick 35, which is nothing to complain about. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick195
Rnd6
Xavier Scott
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Scott at the 195th pick, value and slot in agreement. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick242
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
A conviction pick on Riley Mahlman at the Round 7 slot that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
