The Vikings cashed the board's mistake on Flores Jr.: A. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Vikings came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.
The Flores Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Vikings clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In pick 3 they get an enforcer at safety at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Jermod McCoy
Jermod McCoy at No. 35 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick214
Rnd6
Jack Velling
Jack Velling at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick231
Rnd7
Rico Flores Jr.
Rico Flores Jr. at pick No. 231 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
