Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Vikings this weekend: B+.

Whoever sat across the table from the Vikings should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They are betting Pegues proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

They bet on numbers rather than a single high pick.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Jahdae Barron
In the 30th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Pick37 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
A slide stopped in the Round 2 slot, with Nick Emmanwori worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick55 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
They robbed the room for Omarion Hampton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
Pick56 Rnd2 Aireontae Ersery
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Aireontae Ersery in No. 56. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick89 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
They jumped the gun on Jared Wilson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick90 Rnd3 Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte at pick 90 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick128 Rnd4 Jeffrey Bassa
They did well to land Jeffrey Bassa in slot 128, just ahead of his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick139 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant at pick No. 139 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick143 Rnd5 Riley Leonard
Riley Leonard at slot 143 is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick144 Rnd5 LeQuint Allen
LeQuint Allen in the 144th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick145 Rnd5 Mitchell Evans
No edge and no loss on Mitchell Evans in pick 145; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick149 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
A tidy bit of business in Round 5, Pick 11, where Malachi Moore graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick157 Rnd5 Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams in No. 157 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick159 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
Value said wait; JJ Pegues in the Round 5 slot says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
Pick171 Rnd5 CJ West
CJ West at the 171st pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick181 Rnd6 Clay Webb
Clay Webb at pick No. 181 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick205 Rnd6 Jason Marshall Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Jason Marshall Jr. at the 205th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick208 Rnd6 Caleb Rogers
A clean, defensible pick in Round 6, Pick 32 with a little surplus value in Caleb Rogers. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick220 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
They liked Isaac TeSlaa enough to skip the value, taking him in the 220th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick238 Rnd7 R.J. Mickens
R.J. Mickens at pick 238 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick239 Rnd7 Thomas Fidone II
A reach on Thomas Fidone II in slot 239; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick243 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
A premium they did not need to pay, Teddye Buchanan a notch or two before his time. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick247 Rnd7 Jeremy Crawshaw
A reach for Jeremy Crawshaw in No. 247; a little patience would have been rewarded. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
