FutureB+
Larceny in the 245th overall pick lands the Vikings a B+, Johnson and all. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Vikings were there to profit. Avery Johnson, the No. 207 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 7, Pick 29. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick35
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
A reasonable price with a little left over, Dillon Thieneman in the 35th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick50
Rnd2
Eli Stowers
A straight-up fair deal on Eli Stowers at slot 50, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick62
Rnd2
Iapani Laloulu
Iapani Laloulu at the 62nd overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick63
Rnd2
Suntarine Perkins
No edge and no loss on Suntarine Perkins in No. 63; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick64
Rnd2
Bud Clark
They took Bud Clark at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Christen Miller
Somehow Christen Miller was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 3, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick109
Rnd4
Jack Endries
They let Jack Endries come to them and pounced at pick No. 109. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick120
Rnd4
Rod Moore
Rod Moore at pick 120 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick127
Rnd4
Darius Taylor
A tidy little value on Darius Taylor in the 127th pick, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick132
Rnd4
Luke Hasz
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Luke Hasz. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick157
Rnd5
Xavier Scott
Xavier Scott in pick No. 157 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick170
Rnd5
Bryce Foster
They paid sticker price for Bryce Foster in No. 170, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick231
Rnd7
Marquis Johnson
Marquis Johnson in Round 7, Pick 15 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick245
Rnd7
Avery Johnson
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Avery Johnson in pick 245, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick246
Rnd7
Trey Holly
By-the-book stuff, Trey Holly at the 246th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
