FutureB
Grand theft in No. 187: the Vikings steal Smith and grade out a B+. You build a draft on nights like this. Brashard Smith had no business being available in the Round 6 slot, and the Vikings did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They are betting Jackson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
The Burke pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback still on the board.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick38
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Steal is underselling it; Nick Emmanwori at the 38th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick39
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
Value said wait; Donovan Jackson in pick 39 says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick89
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
They went early on Jared Wilson in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick96
Rnd3
Tai Felton
No edge and no loss on Tai Felton in No. 96; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick97
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
A premium they did not need to pay, Zy Alexander a notch or two before his time. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick99
Rnd3
Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips in the 99th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick103
Rnd4
David Walker
David Walker at Round 4, Pick 1 is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick109
Rnd4
Denzel Burke
A curious use of pick No. 109. Quarterback needed the pick; a cornerback in Denzel Burke did not.
Pick132
Rnd4
Jeffrey Bassa
Good price on Jeffrey Bassa in slot 132, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick139
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick187
Rnd6
Brashard Smith
Brashard Smith in No. 187 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Pick206
Rnd6
Oronde Gadsden II
They read the board right and Oronde Gadsden II was the payoff at Round 6, Pick 30. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick240
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in pick No. 240 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
