Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall
B+
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Vikings worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+. The Vikings treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending Round 7, Pick 30 on Garrett Dellinger a full 46 spots early.
The Hampton value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Spending an early pick on cornerback with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick42
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
A safety of that caliber at the Round 2 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick70
Rnd3
Omarion Hampton
Taking Omarion Hampton in the 70th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick93
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
They liked Jared Wilson enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 93. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick99
Rnd3
Chris Paul Jr.
They will replay Chris Paul Jr. at pick 99 for years; that is how good the value is. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick106
Rnd4
Tai Felton
Tai Felton at slot 106 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick108
Rnd4
Zy Alexander
They let Zy Alexander come to them and pounced at Round 4, Pick 6. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick110
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Phillips at the 110th pick, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick120
Rnd4
Denzel Burke
A surprising call. With quarterback, edge rusher and other spots still to address, they spent slot 120 on Denzel Burke, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick139
Rnd5
Brashard Smith
A tidy little value on Brashard Smith in pick No. 139, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick145
Rnd5
Hollin Pierce
They did well to land Hollin Pierce in the 145th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick154
Rnd5
LeQuint Allen
Nice patience on LeQuint Allen, who had no business lasting to pick 154. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick167
Rnd5
James Burnip
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 5 slot with a little surplus value in James Burnip. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick187
Rnd6
Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser at No. 187 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick219
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
They went early on Carson Vinson in Round 7, Pick 3, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick246
Rnd7
Garrett Dellinger
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Garrett Dellinger well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
