FutureB-
The Vikings did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. The rest of the league had time to spare on Ethan Downs; the Vikings did not wait, grabbing him 31 spots ahead at No. 253. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Amos falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick37
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at pick No. 37 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick74
Rnd3
Trey Amos
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Trey Amos in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick97
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
They took Jared Wilson at par in slot 97, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick103
Rnd4
Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter in Round 4, Pick 1 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick116
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson slid further than he should have, and the 116th overall pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick139
Rnd5
Brashard Smith
A clean, defensible pick in the 139th pick with a little surplus value in Brashard Smith. The roster fit checks out.
Pick141
Rnd5
Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce at pick No. 141 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick167
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing O'Donnell Fortune in slot 167. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick178
Rnd6
Kyle Williams
Fair-plus on Kyle Williams, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick187
Rnd6
CJ West
By-the-book stuff, CJ West at pick 187 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick222
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey at the 222nd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
Pick253
Rnd7
Ethan Downs
They reached a country mile for Ethan Downs at the 253rd pick, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
