FutureA-
The Vikings fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+. Whoever sat across the table from the Vikings should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
They are betting Campbell proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
The veteran additions, Caelen Carson chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick45
Rnd2
Eli Stowers
The board had cheaper options than Eli Stowers at the 45th pick, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick50
Rnd2
Iapani Laloulu
A reach for Iapani Laloulu in Round 2, Pick 18; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick58
Rnd2
Bud Clark
Bud Clark in the Round 2 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick59
Rnd2
David Bailey
A conviction pick on David Bailey at slot 59 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick89
Rnd3
Whit Weeks
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Whit Weeks in No. 89. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick118
Rnd4
Darius Taylor
Darius Taylor in the 118th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick125
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
By-the-book stuff, DeMonte Capehart at pick No. 125 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick157
Rnd5
DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell at pick 157 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick165
Rnd5
Kyle Louis
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Kyle Louis in pick 165, plain and simple. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick173
Rnd5
Miller Moss
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Miller Moss at the 173rd pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick215
Rnd6
Jack Velling
No edge and no loss on Jack Velling in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick224
Rnd7
Rico Flores Jr.
Rico Flores Jr. at No. 224 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick231
Rnd7
Dijon Johnson
A cornerback of that caliber at the 231st overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick254
Rnd7
King Mack
A tidy bit of business in slot 254, where King Mack graded well above the range. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
