Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B
ValueB NeedB- TradesC+ FutureB+
Grand theft in the 50th overall pick: the Vikings steal Love and grade out a B.

Somebody in pick No. 50 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Vikings sat still while Jeremiyah Love, the No. 12 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

The Ponds pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots still on the board. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

If Holly pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Jermod McCoy
In the 20th pick they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. More want than need.
Pick50 Rnd2 Jeremiyah Love
They barely believed it either: Jeremiyah Love still on the board at pick 50. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick82 Rnd3 Bud Clark
They read the board right and Bud Clark was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick97 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
A curious use of No. 97. Quarterback, edge rusher and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in D'Angelo Ponds did not.
Pick118 Rnd4 Jaden Greathouse
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jaden Greathouse at Round 4, Pick 16 is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick157 Rnd5 Xavier Scott
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Scott at slot 157 squarely in line with his ranking. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick196 Rnd6 Lawson Luckie
Lawson Luckie in pick No. 196 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick208 Rnd6 Jack Velling
Jack Velling in the 208th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick231 Rnd7 Trey Holly
A big swing on Trey Holly at pick 231, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick233 Rnd7 Rico Flores Jr.
They will replay Rico Flores Jr. at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
