Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB- TradesA+ FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Vikings a B+.

There is reaching, and then there is Jalen Travis at Round 7, Pick 24. The Vikings jumped the board by 47 and dared it to prove them wrong. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.

They banked enough surplus on Horton to cover a lot of smaller sins. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They will answer for taking cornerback early while edge rusher went begging.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick47 Rnd2 Jonah Savaiinaea
Jonah Savaiinaea in the 47th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick63 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
A safety of that caliber at the Round 2 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick73 Rnd3 Maxwell Hairston
A straight-up fair deal on Maxwell Hairston at pick 73, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick76 Rnd3 Darien Porter
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher to take Darien Porter, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick78 Rnd3 Elijah Arroyo
Fair-plus on Elijah Arroyo, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick80 Rnd3 Elic Ayomanor
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Elic Ayomanor in No. 80. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick93 Rnd3 Danny Stutsman
Good price on Danny Stutsman in pick No. 93, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick103 Rnd4 Gunnar Helm
Gunnar Helm at the 103rd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick107 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Jared Wilson. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick108 Rnd4 Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe is a better player than the 108th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick109 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo slid further than he should have, and Round 4, Pick 7 is lovely value for the running back. The roster fit checks out.
Pick110 Rnd4 Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips at slot 110 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick128 Rnd4 Jordan James
Jordan James at pick 128 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick130 Rnd4 Brashard Smith
No drama and no debate, Brashard Smith went about where he belonged in No. 130. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick132 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at the 132nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick139 Rnd5 Jake Majors
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jake Majors at slot 139. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick145 Rnd5 Jackson Slater
By-the-book stuff, Jackson Slater at the 145th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick148 Rnd5 Tory Horton
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Tory Horton in pick 148, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick167 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
They let O'Donnell Fortune come to them and pounced at Round 5, Pick 29. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick187 Rnd6 CJ West
CJ West in No. 187 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick205 Rnd6 Luke Lachey
No edge and no loss on Luke Lachey in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick233 Rnd7 Cam Jackson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cam Jackson in pick No. 233. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick240 Rnd7 Jalen Travis
Jalen Travis at slot 240 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
