FutureB-
The Vikings let Trapilo fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Vikings came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
Getting Trapilo where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will answer for taking cornerback early while edge rusher went begging. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They will need Stackhouse to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick37
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
They barely believed it either: Nick Emmanwori still on the board at No. 37. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick88
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
A quiet steal in pick No. 88: Maxwell Hairston for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick89
Rnd3
Tai Felton
They paid a round early for Tai Felton in slot 89, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
Pick91
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at pick 91 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick95
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
By-the-book stuff, Jared Wilson at the 95th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick96
Rnd3
Elijah Arroyo
Elijah Arroyo in Round 3, Pick 32 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Pick97
Rnd3
Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman in pick 97 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick101
Rnd3
Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick104
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips in No. 104 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick108
Rnd4
Quinn Ewers
Quinn Ewers at the 108th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick109
Rnd4
Ozzy Trapilo
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Ozzy Trapilo in pick No. 109, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick127
Rnd4
Billy Bowman Jr.
Nice patience on Billy Bowman Jr., who had no business lasting to the 127th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick128
Rnd4
Nohl Williams
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Nohl Williams adds a cornerback and leaves edge rusher untouched.
Pick139
Rnd5
Brashard Smith
Brashard Smith in slot 139 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick143
Rnd5
Mello Dotson
Mello Dotson at slot 143 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick179
Rnd6
Jack Nelson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jack Nelson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick187
Rnd6
Nazir Stackhouse
A real head-scratcher, Nazir Stackhouse in No. 187 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick205
Rnd6
Luke Lachey
A straight-up fair deal on Luke Lachey at the 205th pick, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick221
Rnd7
Kyle Monangai
A slide stopped in pick No. 221, with Kyle Monangai worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick245
Rnd7
Ty Hamilton
Ty Hamilton in pick 245 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
