Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall
A-
ValueB-
NeedA-
TradesA+
FutureA-
The Vikings won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: A-. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Vikings came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They will need Stowers to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The veteran additions, Caelen Carson chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In the 1st pick they get a rangy last line of defense. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick41
Rnd2
Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers in the Round 2 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick196
Rnd6
Anthony Evans III
They paid sticker price for Anthony Evans III in No. 196, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick208
Rnd6
Lawson Luckie
Good price on Lawson Luckie in the 208th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
Pick214
Rnd6
Marquis Johnson
Nothing to complain about; Marquis Johnson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick231
Rnd7
Jeremiah Cobb
Jeremiah Cobb in pick 231 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
