Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall A-
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Vikings and Slaughter: A-.

Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Vikings came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.

Slaughter falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They are betting Lee proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

In the end it comes back to Jeremiyah Love, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
In the 26th overall pick they get a centerpiece for the ground game at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick50 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
They will replay Jake Slaughter at pick No. 50 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick85 Rnd3 Bud Clark
A quiet steal in Round 3, Pick 21: Bud Clark for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick97 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
Malachi Fields is a better player than slot 97 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick118 Rnd4 Jack Endries
Jack Endries at pick 118 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick157 Rnd5 Xavier Scott
Xavier Scott in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick165 Rnd5 Cameron Calhoun
Cameron Calhoun in Round 5, Pick 27 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick173 Rnd5 Kayin Lee
They reached a country mile for Kayin Lee at pick 173, and the board is aghast. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick196 Rnd6 Lawson Luckie
Lawson Luckie in slot 196 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick231 Rnd7 Jeremiah Cobb
No edge and no loss on Jeremiah Cobb in the 231st overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
