The Vikings cashed the board's mistake on Graves: B+. Whoever sat across the table from the Vikings should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
That Graves pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Mesidor has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
In pick 19 they get a potential shutdown corner. More want than need.
Pick72
Rnd3
Bud Clark
No edge and no loss on Bud Clark in the 72nd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick74
Rnd3
Iapani Laloulu
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 10, where Iapani Laloulu graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick82
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds at the 82nd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick95
Rnd3
Jack Endries
They paid sticker price for Jack Endries in pick No. 95, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick99
Rnd3
Isaiah Nwokobia
A straight-up fair deal on Isaiah Nwokobia at slot 99, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick108
Rnd4
Aaron Graves
Taking Aaron Graves in Round 4, Pick 6 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick143
Rnd5
Lee Hunter
A reach on Lee Hunter in slot 143; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick149
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Good price on Jermaine Mathews Jr. in pick No. 149, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick208
Rnd6
Rico Flores Jr.
Rico Flores Jr. in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick231
Rnd7
Avery Johnson
Steal is underselling it; Avery Johnson at the 231st pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick236
Rnd7
Jeremiah Cobb
Jeremiah Cobb at No. 236 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick240
Rnd7
Rueben Owens
Rueben Owens in the 240th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick244
Rnd7
Akheem Mesidor
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Akheem Mesidor. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick252
Rnd7
Trey Holly
Trey Holly at the Round 7 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
