Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Larceny in pick 50 lands the Vikings a B, Slaughter and all.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Vikings were there to profit. Jake Slaughter, the No. 24 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 50. The bottom line is a respectable B.

The Campbell pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.

On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Anthony Hill Jr.
In pick 18 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick50 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at No. 50 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick82 Rnd3 Bud Clark
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Bud Clark at slot 82. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick97 Rnd3 Kenyon Sadiq
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kenyon Sadiq in the 97th pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick122 Rnd4 Justice Haynes
Justice Haynes at the 122nd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick157 Rnd5 DJ Campbell
A wild overpay on DJ Campbell in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick173 Rnd5 Miller Moss
Miller Moss slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 35 is lovely value for the quarterback. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick196 Rnd6 Elliot Washington II
They took Elliot Washington II at par in pick No. 196, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick208 Rnd6 Lawson Luckie
Nice patience on Lawson Luckie, who had no business lasting to No. 208. The roster fit checks out.
Pick231 Rnd7 Javien Toviano
The board had Javien Toviano higher than pick No. 231, and the safety fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
