Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall

TradesA+
FutureB
Nobody dealt better than the Vikings this weekend: B+. The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Malachi Fields, pick No. 124, roughly 43 picks past where he belonged. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
They are betting Washington II proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In slot 26 they get a bell-cow for the offense, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick58
Rnd2
Eli Stowers
A straight-up fair deal on Eli Stowers at the 58th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick60
Rnd2
Bud Clark
Bud Clark at the Round 2 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick61
Rnd2
Iapani Laloulu
Iapani Laloulu at No. 61 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick122
Rnd4
Rod Moore
They took Rod Moore at par in pick No. 122, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick124
Rnd4
Malachi Fields
You do not let a wide receiver like Malachi Fields reach the 124th pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick157
Rnd5
Xavier Scott
They paid sticker price for Xavier Scott in pick 157, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick158
Rnd5
Elliot Washington II
A wild overpay on Elliot Washington II in Round 5, Pick 20, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick173
Rnd5
Jaishawn Barham
A reach for Jaishawn Barham in slot 173; a little patience would have been rewarded. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick196
Rnd6
Miller Moss
Miller Moss in the 196th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick208
Rnd6
Bear Alexander
Bear Alexander in slot 208 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick231
Rnd7
Marquis Johnson
Taking Marquis Johnson in the 231st pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
