Draft Grade — Vikings

FutureC+
The Vikings won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B. It is the swing that defines the weekend: Tanner Koziol in Round 4, Pick 27, a good 32 spots before the room expected him.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback and running back went begging.
The Davis value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
In the 23rd pick they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Pick45
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Good price on Jake Slaughter in pick No. 45, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick79
Rnd3
Colton Hood
A want over a need in the 79th overall pick: Colton Hood adds a cornerback while quarterback and running back keeps waiting.
Pick80
Rnd3
Ian Strong
Ian Strong at pick 80 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick97
Rnd3
Mikail Kamara
They went early on Mikail Kamara in No. 97, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick122
Rnd4
Jaishawn Barham
Jaishawn Barham in Round 4, Pick 22 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick124
Rnd4
Bray Hubbard
Bray Hubbard in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick127
Rnd4
Tanner Koziol
A real head-scratcher, Tanner Koziol in slot 127 is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick133
Rnd4
Iapani Laloulu
They reached a country mile for Iapani Laloulu at pick No. 133, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick140
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Tacario Davis adds a cornerback and leaves quarterback and running back untouched.
Pick145
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
Aamil Wagner at pick 145 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick169
Rnd5
Duce Robinson
Duce Robinson at No. 169 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick176
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa in the 176th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick228
Rnd7
Bear Alexander
Bear Alexander at Round 7, Pick 14 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
