Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The 49ers reached some 128 spots for Jalin Conyers, and value like that does not grow back. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

That Grant pick is the receipt they will wave around later. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In the Round 1 slot they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Aireontae Ersery
Aireontae Ersery in the 43rd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick75 Rnd3 Deone Walker
A premium they did not need to pay, Deone Walker a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick100 Rnd3 Danny Stutsman
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 36, with Danny Stutsman worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick113 Rnd4 Charles Grant
Charles Grant in pick No. 113 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick138 Rnd4 RJ Oben
A wild overpay on RJ Oben in No. 138, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick147 Rnd5 Nick Nash
No edge and no loss on Nick Nash in pick No. 147; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick160 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing O'Donnell Fortune in the 160th pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick227 Rnd7 Carson Vinson
Nothing to complain about; Carson Vinson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick249 Rnd7 Nick Martin
They left a pile of value on the table to take Nick Martin this early at No. 249. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick252 Rnd7 Jalin Conyers
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jalin Conyers. It fills a real need, too.
