More right than wrong for the 49ers, and a B- to prove it.

The Jalin Conyers selection is the head-turner. The 49ers reached 129 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.

That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Williams.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Armand Membou
In the 11th overall pick they get a blindside protector. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
They read the board right and Jihaad Campbell was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 11. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick75 Rnd3 Omarr Norman-Lott
They paid sticker price for Omarr Norman-Lott in the 75th pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100 Rnd3 Oluwafemi Oladejo
A big swing on Oluwafemi Oladejo at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick113 Rnd4 Lathan Ransom
The board had Lathan Ransom higher than slot 113, and the safety fell to them anyway. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick138 Rnd4 Antwaun Powell-Ryland
Antwaun Powell-Ryland at pick No. 138 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick147 Rnd5 Kyle Williams
Somehow Kyle Williams was still sitting there in pick No. 147, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick160 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
A swing that ignored the value entirely, JJ Pegues well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick227 Rnd7 Zeek Biggers
A real head-scratcher, Zeek Biggers in the 227th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick249 Rnd7 Marcus Harris
They left a pile of value on the table to take Marcus Harris this early at No. 249. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick252 Rnd7 Jalin Conyers
Jalin Conyers at the 252nd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
