Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The 49ers reached some 30 spots for Nadame Tucker, and value like that does not grow back. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Cooper Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon at No. 27 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick58 Rnd2 A.J. Haulcy
Nothing to complain about; A.J. Haulcy went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick92 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
Value with a capital V on Omar Cooper Jr. in pick 92, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick127 Rnd4 Hezekiah Masses
Hezekiah Masses at Round 4, Pick 27 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick133 Rnd4 Nadame Tucker
Nadame Tucker at slot 133 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick138 Rnd4 Ted Hurst
A reach for Ted Hurst in the 138th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick171 Rnd5 Red Murdock
They took Red Murdock at par in the 171st pick, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
