Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesB- FutureB+
A solid, sensible weekend for the 49ers: B-.

The 49ers clearly saw something nobody else did in Mario Landino, taking him 39 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.

That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The 49ers indulged a want in Jones while a need in running back and quarterback stayed open.

They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Trevor Goosby
In No. 14 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick32 Rnd1 Kenyatta Jackson Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge, a steep price for the projection.
Pick45 Rnd2 Kelley Jones
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Kelley Jones adds a cornerback and leaves running back and quarterback untouched.
Pick64 Rnd2 Devan Thompkins
By-the-book stuff, Devan Thompkins at slot 64 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick76 Rnd3 Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper at pick 76 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick96 Rnd3 Peter Clarke
A want over a need in the 96th pick: Peter Clarke adds a tight end while running back and quarterback keeps waiting.
Pick134 Rnd4 Kingston Lopa
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 4 slot on Kingston Lopa with running back and quarterback unsolved.
Pick169 Rnd5 Isaiah Sategna III
Isaiah Sategna III at No. 169 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick209 Rnd6 Matt Rose
Matt Rose in the 209th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick252 Rnd7 Mario Landino
They reached a country mile for Mario Landino at pick No. 252, and the board is aghast. A minor need, but a need all the same.
