mmm DRAFTING FOR THE49ers

Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall

FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the 49ers: B-. The 49ers bet big and early on Logan Jones, 50 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Caleb Lomu
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a building block for the line, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman in No. 58 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick89
Rnd3
Logan Jones
A real head-scratcher, Logan Jones in the Round 3 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick128
Rnd4
Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price in slot 128 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick136
Rnd4
Duce Robinson
They went early on Duce Robinson in pick 136, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick139
Rnd4
Iapani Laloulu
They paid up for Iapani Laloulu at pick No. 139 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick141
Rnd4
Vincent Anthony Jr.
Vincent Anthony Jr. in pick 141 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick180
Rnd5
Josh Moten
Josh Moten in the Round 5 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick196
Rnd6
Drayk Bowen
A reach for Drayk Bowen in slot 196; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
