Nobody dealt better than the Bears this weekend: A-. The tape said wait; the Bears did not. Richard Jibunor went at Round 7, Pick 5, a good 95 picks before the board was ready. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
However the rest shakes out, Hart at that price is a win they earned. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In the end it comes back to Xavier Legette, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at slot 18 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick37
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman in pick No. 37 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick50
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
No edge and no loss on Cooper Beebe in pick 50; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick56
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell in the Round 2 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick68
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
Nothing to complain about; Sedrick Van Pran went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick69
Rnd3
Amarius Mims
Amarius Mims at the 69th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick104
Rnd4
Tyleik Williams
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyleik Williams. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick132
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at Round 4, Pick 32 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick141
Rnd5
Donovan Edwards
A premium they did not need to pay, Donovan Edwards a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick182
Rnd6
Cam Hart
They let Cam Hart come to them and pounced at the 182nd pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick199
Rnd6
Dylan McMahon
They talked themselves into Dylan McMahon at pick 199, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick225
Rnd7
Richard Jibunor
This one needs a full-page explanation: Richard Jibunor in slot 225, miles early. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
