Draft Grade — Saints
Overall
B-

FutureB-
The Saints let Jackson fall and pounced. Final grade: B-. Call it larceny. Cam Jackson sat on the board until Round 7, Pick 38, and the Saints did not need to be asked twice.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Reaching for Smith left real value on the table behind him.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In the Round 1 slot they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
They paid sticker price for Jihaad Campbell in No. 40, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick71
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson in pick No. 71 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick93
Rnd3
Savion Williams
No drama and no debate, Savion Williams went about where he belonged in the 93rd pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick112
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
They took Cam Skattebo at par in pick 112, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick133
Rnd4
Riley Leonard
Riley Leonard at slot 133 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick184
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed at the 184th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick248
Rnd7
Jaylin Smith
A reach for Jaylin Smith in Round 7, Pick 32; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick251
Rnd7
LaJohntay Wester
LaJohntay Wester at Round 7, Pick 35 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick254
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson at No. 254 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick257
Rnd7
John Williams
A reach on John Williams in pick No. 257; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
